The current U.S. State Department press advisor got into a heated confrontation at the Washington Wizards’ home opener … and we obtained video showing her tossing a beverage at someone in the crowd.

But sources close to Britt tell TMZ there’s more to the story … claiming people sitting behind her and her male guest were making inappropriate comments about Kyle Kuzma’s fiancée, Winnie Harlow … and Britt responded. Kuzma used to play for the Wizards and now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, their opponent in Wednesday’s game.

Our sources don’t recall exactly what prompted Britt to throw the drink, but say it was part of the confrontation … and claim things were thrown at her, too.

On Friday, McHenry was forced to resign just days after she received a promotion.

US State Department press adviser, Britt McHenry, was forced to resign on Thursday after getting into a heated confrontation at the Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks game the night before, a source familiar with the situation told Page Six.

An insider told us McHenry was promoted to a new role leading External Affairs & Press for under secretary Jacob Helberg’s team on Wednesday, the same day that she found herself in her own scandal — hurling a drink at a fan at the basketball game.

McHenry is best known for her 2015 tirade at a Towing office, which led to her suspension by ESPN at the time.
