MMA Fans Have One Major Problem With Stacked UFC 300 Fight Card

What the upcoming UFC 300 card may lack for a main event, it more than makes up for in depth.

Try as he may, Dana White was unable to book a super fight to top the company’s landmark 300th pay-per-view event. The loaded card does, however,  feature two title fights and 12 current or former champions.

But while fans were largely happy with the card, they did have one major problem.

The main card features five fights. Four of those five fights feature at least one former or current champion, with the main event featuring both current light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira and former champ Jamahal Hill.

Then there’s Bo Nickal and Cody Brundage.

Nickal is one of the fastest-rising stars in the company. He’s a three-time NCAA Division I champion in wrestling and a Hodge Trophy winner, which is the wrestling equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

But he’s had just five professional fights in his career and only two in the UFC. Despite finishing each of those fights in the first round, fans were wondering how he and Brundage, who is only 4-4 in the promotion, found their way onto the main card.

Putting a -1400 fav between THOSE fights, on THIS particular PPV, is just inviting criticism for Nickal and the matchup. I get what they’re doing but weird choice,” one fan tweeted.

“C’mon @danawhite @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2 @ufc, I’m actually paying for #UFC300, Nickal 🆚 Brundage deserves to be on the early prelims. Why isn’t Kattar 🆚 Sterling or Prochazka 🆚 Rakic on the main card⁉️,” said another.

But not everyone hated the idea.

“I am barely exaggerating when I say a blue chip prospect at the very star of their career like Bo Nickal should be on every other PPV, the bigger the better, and racking up like six fights against unranked opponents this year before tearing a 42 year old Derek Brunson to shreds,” one fan opined.

Love him or hate him, it’s clear that the UFC is all-in on Nickal. Whether or not he lives up to that expectation remains to be seen.
