UGA’s Homefield Advantage Just Improved Following Intoxicating Football Announcement

Sanford Stadium will be even rowdier next football season following an announcement from the university on Wednesday. Georgia Bulldog fans will have the ability to stay lubricated during the action.

Cold beer will now be served at the venue as UGA removes its ban on alcohol sales.

What’s that mean for Georgia?

The school will become the 13th (15th?) in the SEC to approve the policy, with Auburn being the lone holdout. The move, first reported by Dawgs HQ, gets the school up to date with the times while providing an incredible opportunity for revenue.

A recent study showed that conference rival Tennessee made boatloads on beer in the ’22 season, averaging more than $475,000 per game on sales. That included a reported $697,000 from the win over Alabama alone.

Judging by how the Vols celebrated after the fact, we won’t question that number.

That $475K across seven home games came out to a total of over $3.3M for the year. Not too shabby!

There’s no reason to believe ‘Dawgs fans can’t compete with that output between the hedges.

On the flip side, those visiting Sanford Stadium will enter an even more hostile road environment. Yes, that barking will be much, much louder come 2024.

Georgia owns one of the best homefield advantages in college football, and that should only improve with attendees able to get their hands on a few more frosty beverages.

Over the last four seasons, UGA is a perfect 20-0 at home.

In fact, the home winning streak currently sits at 23 games straight, though as a South Carolina grad, I won’t mention who the Bulldogs last fell to in the friendly confines – out of respect for any UGA friends that might’ve been in attendance, of course.

The UGA beer sales announcement comes about six months after SEC brethren Kentucky announced the same. If you thought Athens was rowdy before, just wait until you see it next fall!
