Matayo Uiagalelei, the little brother of DJ Uiagalelei, has their dad, Big Dave Uiagalelei, muted on social media. And apparently, so does his big brother.
The Uiagalelei family patriarch wears it as a badge of pride.
As the college football season nears closer, Big Dave’s daily amount of posts is going to increase. His sons won’t see them.
Big Dave Uiagalelei posts a lot on social media.
Big Dave Uiagalelei, a former high-end celebrity bodyguard for celebrities like Rihanna, Chris Brown and Meek Mill, is the father of Matayo and DJ. DJ Uiagalelei is the backup quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers after a college career at Clemson, Florida State and Oregon State. Matayo Uiagalelei is one of the top edge rushers in the country as a rising senior at Oregon.
Although Big Dave does not come from a high school, college or professional football background, he has become one of the most vocal personalities in the sport. He boasts more than 25,000 followers on X and Instagram, and also serves as an NIL consultant with Raising Champions— a quarterback development and athlete representation company founded by Tua Tagovailoa’s father.
There are very few people on social media who are more active than Big Dave. It often gets him in some trouble.
Big Dave ripped Dabo Swinney in 2023, openly criticized the Florida State coaching staff and threatened to fight a Florida fan in 2024, and later doubled down on the criticism after just one NFL preseason drive in 2025. He often stood in defense of DJ amid merciless boos from the fans and called for the cowardly haters to voice their opinions to his face while embracing the death threats as a positive for his son. There is no bigger advocate for DJ and Matayo than their own dad.
He loves to hype them up online.
However, his kids are not as interested in their father’s posts as his 50,000+ followers.
Matayo Uiagalelei and DJ Uiagalelei muted their own dad.
As the 2026 college football season quickly approaches, Oregon is one of the top contenders for a national title. Some of the Ducks are trying to stay off of social media to keep their focus. Matayo Uiagalelei’s approach is even more targeted.
He muted his own dad on social media so he doesn’t see all of his posts.
Hilarious moment at Matayo Uiagalelei's presser today as @RyanTClarke asks about players trying to stay off of social media:

"Shoot, I'm gonna be honest, I feel like the most posts I see about myself is from my dad (@DUiagalelei)… I muted his account so I don't see all his… pic.twitter.com/M6wfv2KMXx
And, as it would turn out, so does DJ Uiagalelei. Big Dave Uiagalelei is proud of his two sons for staying humble and focused but that does not mean he is going to stop posting.
“Both my sons mute my posts, that will never stop me from being the BIGGEST ADVOCATE for my kids!!! The fact that Matayo doesn’t want to see any post about himself, kudos to the father who raised him to be humble and focused. 😎👌🏽💪🏽”
There has not been a tangible online incident that involves Big Dave in a few months. Most of his recent posts, whether you consider them as obnoxious or not, have been harmless. It could start to heat up as the season gets underway. DJ and Matayo won’t see the posts.
