The Duke basketball team seemed destined for a storybook ending to the ACC Tournament in legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final season.
After knocking off Syracuse and Miami in consecutive contests, a championship matchup with seventh-seeded Virginia Tech was set for Saturday.
The Hokies, who’d survived an overtime scare against Clemson in the opening round, had played three games in as many days. With the short rest and talent advantage of the Blue Devils, many expected Coach K to leave Greensboro as a champion in his final conference tournament.
Instead, it was Virginia Tech who was holding up the ACC trophy when the final buzzer sounded.
The Hokies sent the Blue Devils home bruised and battered with an 82-67 shellacking. The loss tarnished Coach K’s final ACC Tournament, much like a loss to UNC ruined the legendary coach’s final home game in Durham.
Following the defeat, one former Tar Heel took to social media to take a jab at the Blue Devils and their late season stumbles.
Theo Pinson Takes A Shot At Duke Basketball
The rivalry between North Carolina and Duke is one of the most heated in all of college sports. So when there’s an opportunity to rile the feathers of the opposing school, supporters often take the time to do so.
That was true over the weekend with former Tar Heel star Theo Pinson taking a shot at the Duke basketball program for their most recent loss.
So you lose Coach K last game and then you get smacked in the chip also😳 what a two weeks! Y’all don’t like Saturdays that much right now😂😂

A few of the Duke faithful came out to back the Blue Devils but Pinson would subsequently place them in body bags, as well.

Coach K will have one final championship opportunity with the NCAA Tournament beginning next week. Maybe this one will end better than the last.
