As is always the case when one of the PGA’s majors comes around, all of the top golfers get outfitted in the latest and greatest gear and apparel from the companies who make them look great each week regardless of the scores they shoot.
The 2019 Open Championship being held at Royal Portrush Golf Club is no different and we’ve got the scoop of what two of the Tour’s most stylish players, Jordan Speith and Rickie Fowler, will be wearing when they tee off on Thursday in Northern Ireland.
“The Open Championship presents a unique challenge every year given the uncertain conditions that await. Under Armour outfitted Jordan with scripting that will ensure he can overcome the elements, those mild or harsh, and keep his focus on the course,” shared Chris Snoke of Under Armour Golf.
The three-time major winner will be outfitted in the Under Armour Playoff Polo and Tour Tips Polo, both designed with the company’s latest material innovations. Given the unpredictability of the weather surrounding the coastline of Northern Ireland, Speith will also have the Storm Full Zip and Storm Daytona Half Zip in his scripting arsenal during the tournament as he navigates Royal Portrush.
Jordan will also wear an Open Championship limited edition of the Spieth 3 golf shoe. The navy colorway has pops of gold and maroon, a subtle nod to the Royal Portrush Golf Club logo, with a collar lining mimicking the iconic carpet pattern seen throughout the clubhouse.
Ten years after first signing with Puma, Rickie Fowler is teaming up with Puma to commemorate the anniversary with his new X Collection.
“There are very few golfer and apparel company relationships that have yielded greater impact on the way golfers dress than that of PUMA and Rickie Fowler. From hi-tops and joggers to flat brim caps and untucked shirts, together Rickie and Puma are setting trends and continuing to make an indelible mark on golf fashion,” said Grant Knudson, Head of ProductCreation at Puma Golf. “Rickie’s style has evolved over the years, starting various fashionable trends in on course wear by blending influences from streetwear and modern fashion. Today, his style reflects both a maturationin his game and personal confidence, and the X Collection was designed to reflect that transition in an elegant way.”
Key pieces we will see when Rickie debuts the collection on Thursday at the 148th Open Championship include the Ignite Proadapt X Shoes, a model that Puma initially debuted earlier this year, the Causeway Jacket, which mimics the styling of a classic British outerwear piece, and the Donegal Polo, inspired by the iconic top Greg Norman wore in the final round when he won the 1993 Open Championship.
