Elite College Hockey Prospects In Maine Crash 9-Year-Old’s Birthday Party And Make His Day

Swedish hockey prospect Albin Boija has been in net for the past three seasons at the University of Maine. Last year, he became just the second goalie in Maine Men’s Ice Hockey history to record 10 shutouts in a season. The year prior, Albin was a Mike Richer Award Finalist and earned the runner-up Hockey East Goaltender of the Year honors.

Heading into his Senior Year, Albin Boija is considered an elite hockey prospect and has already received offers from the pros. But in his downtime, he found the hours in his schedule to show up to a random 9-year-old’s birthday party and he brought two of his University of Maine teammates.

On TikTok, @LizbethAnn shared a video showing the 23-year-old Albin Boija from Sundsvall, Sweden strolling up to her son’s birthday party with his teammates. The video has already been viewed over a quarter of a million times in just a day.

In the caption she wrote “when a 9-year-old hockey fan takes a chance and sends a birthday invite to Albin Boija… and not only does he RSVP, but he brings some of his teammates along too! We’re so incredibly thankful they took the time to come celebrate with him — it’s something he (and honestly, all of us!) won’t soon forget.”

The University of Maine Men’s Hockey season starts this Friday against Holy Cross. It is nice to see the boys staying loose before the start of another potentially huge season:

Here’s the thing… That right there is how you make a fan for life. And not to be forgotten in all of this is how Albin is 23-years-old, the other two teammates are college-aged, and they are probably feeling homesick to a certain extent. Getting welcomed to a 9-year-old’s birthday party had to feel great for them as well.

Everyone Loves Community Outreach

The replies are exactly what I expected to see. Everyone loved to see these fellas show up for the birthday boy. One commenter (@Ibegreencleanininny) wrote “Do I know Albin Boija? NO. Did I watch this whole video? YES! Would have watched a 10 minute video if you posted it. 💯 THIS is top tier! I can’t love this enough!!”

The University of Maine’s official account slid into the comments and wrote “Now that’s a core memory! 🐻💙” Another person by the name of @Jester wrote “Email his coach and the athletic director and praise this young man.” That was my first thought too, let the coaching staff (and the players’ families) know the character of these fells. They didn’t do it to be praised but they still deserve respect for showing up to make this kid’s day.
