Geno Smith is coming off a breakout season after proving himself as a reliable starting quarterback in 2023, the Seahawks now need to pay him what he earned.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider recently told Seattle Sports 710AM that he’s confident in how contract discussions are progressing thus far.

“Good talks so far,” Schneider said. “We’re in it. We’re just trying to figure out what’s best, and we’ll do what’s right.”

Geno Smith set the franchise record for passing yards and completion percentage in his first year after taking as the starter from Russell Wilson, who went on to struggle mightily in Denver following an offseason trade between the two teams.

In addition to passing for 30 touchdowns, Smith was named Comeback Player of the Year in the NFL.

The Seahawks will now reward the pending free-agent with a much higher salary and more guaranteed money on a new deal.

The team also might prefer to see Geno perform well on back to back seasons before committing a massive payday for him. They could opt to use the franchise tag on him for one season before extending him for multiple years.

One thing is certain, Geno isn’t losing any sleep over his future, and he still hasn’t written back.
