US Fans Troll Dutch Women’s Soccer Player Who Mocked USWNT After Horrible Showing

Dutch national team forward Lineth Beerensteyn learned a tried and true American proverb on Thursday night: “F—around and find out.”

Beerenstyn, 26, plays her club soccer for Italian giants Juventus and is making her second FIFA Women’s World Cup squad for the Netherlands.

This time, however, Beerensteyn is a key cog for the Dutch, especially in the absence of injury star Vivianne Miedema.

The Netherlands, notably, lost to the United States in the finals of the 2019 World Cup. The two sides squared off again in the group stage of this year’s tournament and drew 1-1 in a fiery affair.

So when the US went crashing out against Sweden in the round of 16, Beerensteyn had just one thought on her mind.

“From the first moment I heard they were out, I was just like, ‘Yes! Bye!,” Beerensteyn, who also plays for Juventus, said Thursday, via ESPN. “From the start of the tournament, they had really big mouths and were already talking about the final.

“I was thinking you first have to show it on the pitch before you talk.”

It didn’t take long for those comments to immediately come back to bite her. Beerensteryn had several good chances to score in the Netherlands’ round of 16 matchup with Spain.

Instead, she scuffed all of them.

Chance after chance fell her way. And chance after chance went missing.

Ultimately, the Netherlands were sent home after 2-1 loss to Spain in extra time. And US fans did not forget Beerentsteyn’s comments.

Even former USWNT star Sydney Leroux took to Twitter to weigh in.

One thing we’ve learned is wait to talk s— until after you’re on the podium with a gold medal because now…you’re bye too.”

The US unquestionably laid an egg in the World Cup. But much like with siblings, only we can talk crap on them.

And if you’re going to do it from another country, you’d better be able to back it up.
