Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim celebrated birthdays at the US Open.

Sunday represented the final round of the US Open in Southampton, New York. It was also Scottie Scheffler’s birthday. Fans in attendance took a moment to recognize that fact ahead of his first tee shot.

A “Happy Birthday” singalong broke out at the first tee box. The crowd had an opportunity to do the same for a fellow PGA Tour competitor. Instead, there was silence.

Tom Kim teed off about 10 minutes before Scheffler. He celebrated his 24th birthday at the US Open. He did not receive the same fanfare as the world’s No. 1 golfer.

Fans sing for Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler entered his final round in a tie for second place on the leaderboard. After a slow start on Thursday, he bounced back with scores of 68 and 69 on Friday and Saturday.

It put him in contention for a birthday win. Before his first shot, he was greeted with the sound of birthday wishes.

Scheffler turned 30 on Sunday. Everyone knew. He remains the most popular player in the sport.

Tom Kim does not have the same following.

It’s Tom Kim’s birthday, too…

You might not have known it on the first tee! Kim, too, entered in a tie for second place on Sunday at the US Open. He teed off at 2:19 PM ET, just moments before Scottie Scheffler’s 2:30 PM start.

Kim turned pro in 2018, the same year as Scheffler. He sits at 141st in the OWGR, 140 spots behind his counterpart.

His popularity is not nearly that of Scheffler. That is a direct result of success.

Nevertheless, he finds himself in the thick of things on the final day. At the time of this writing, both players are tied for fourth in the field at even par.

A strong finish for each player will secure a solid birthday payout.
