Virginia Commonwealth point guard Brandon Jennings is in the transfer portal. He announced his decision this week with the window officially opening.

The freshman played a key role as a reserve for the Rams this past season. Now, he’ll look for a new home.

In Year 1 at VCU, Jennings appeared in 35 games and averaged 13.1 minutes per game. He shot 39.3% from beyond the arc.

The Rams won 28 games and an A-10 tournament championship to book their ticket to the Big Dance. While they fell in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to BYU, there’s still much to show for their success on the court.

Unfortunately, that success came at an expense. Head coach Ryan Odom was lured away by instate foe Virginia after just two seasons. He’ll lead the Cavaliers in 2025-26.

Interestingly enough, Odom once embarrassed his new employer on a national stage. As a head coach at UMBC, he pulled off the first-ever upset of a No. 16 seed over a No. 1. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!

While Virginia celebrates the addition, players at VCU have decisions to make. Brandon Jennings announced his by entering the transfer portal. His mom commented on that move Wednesday.

Jennings was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in Richmond. He had options (25 offers) headlined by Louisville, but he opted to stay home.

Less than a year later, the coach he signed on to play for has bolted for a higher paying gig. Jennings’ mother applauded her son for handling the adversity.

She also threw some slight shade at Ryan Odom with a reply in the comments section. One follower asked specifically what struggles Brandon Jennings was navigating before hitting the portal.

Ryan Odom broke his commitment to Brandon Jennings by bailing for Virginia. It’s presented the point guard with uncertainty just one year into his college basketball career.

He’ll hope to find a new home (and coach) in the transfer portal ahead of his sophomore season. We should find out that destination soon.
