The University of Vermont is one of the best mid-major programs in college basketball. The Catamounts consistently compete for an NCAA Tournament bid out of the America East Conference and often play the spoiler for high-major teams during the regular season.

This upcoming season presents them with a great opportunity to do exactly that while escaping winter.

Vermont will hit the West Coast for the best road trip in college basketball during the 2025-26 season. It will also get paid $155,000 to do so!

The primary campus for the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College is located in Burlington. Temperatures typically hover between 14 and 35 degrees in the state’s most populous city during the month of December. There is a 33% chance of rain or snow on the average day during that month. Snow totals surpassed 16 inches over the 30-day stretch last winter.

All of this goes to say that Vermont is cold and snowy in December. Duh.

Whether on purpose or by happenstance, the Catamounts are getting out of town as the winter weather arrives. According to Alex Rosinski, they are hitting the road from December 2nd to December 7th for a pair of winnable road games in Oregon and California.

Vermont will play at Oregon State on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Vermont will play at Pepperdine on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Beavers will pay $85,000. The Waves will pay $70,000.

I am not familiar with the Catamounts’ budget for college basketball, but I would imagine that they are going to drive from Corvallis to Malibu. They have two and a half days to get down there so there is more than enough time to take the scenic route down the Pacific Coast Highway!

While all of their peers bundle up in winter coats to brave the first weeks of December in Burlington, Vermont basketball players will travel down the coast of Oregon and California. Their team will also get paid $155,000 to do so and they could (if not should) win both games. It is going to be a good trip win or lose. It could be a really great trip with a pair of victories!
