San Antonio Spurs rookie big man Victor Wembanyama already had the most hype for any NBA prospect since LeBron James twenty years ago. But, the first-overall-pick may have entered a new stratosphere of hype after a dominant performance against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night.

Wembanyama was fantastic against one of the top teams in the league, scoring 38 points, grabbing ten rebounds and blocking two shots as the Spurs won, 132-121.

Yeah, that’s an impressive box score, but watching it was even more impressive. The Spurs dominated in the first half, leading 75-55 at the break behind 20 points from the 7-foot-4-inch phenom.

But, the Suns came storming back, and actually tied the game at 116 with 4:21 remaining in the game.

That’s when the Frenchman took over. the Spurs went on a 12-0 to put the game away, with Wembanyama scoring ten of those points. And, he did it in a variety of ways. After making three free throws and catching a pass and laying it in, he hit two clutch jumpers to finish off his spurt. Take a look.

In case you need reminded, he’s 7-foot-4-inches tall and 19 years old. Victor Wembanyama should not be able to do those things.

Needless to say, people were going nuts on Twitter after this ludicrous performance.

“Whatever those scouts said about Wemby being the “greatest prospect ever” they meant that,” sports personality Kazeem Famuyide said.

“This is no hyperbole: Victor Wembanyama was the best player tonight, and he shared the court with Booker and Durant. If this is what the rookie looks like while he is still trying to learn the game, imagine what he will become in a few seasons,” Noah Magaro-George, a writer who covers the Spurs, said.

“If I were an NBA team I would simply defend Victor Wembanyama with a player who’s actually three players stacked on top of one another under one cartoonishly long jersey,” @skreekyshooter said.

Bottom line, Victor Wembanyama is must-watch television. He’s back in action on Sunday against the Raptors.
