DeMar Derozan was involved in an altercation with a fan at sushi restaurant in Calabasas this weekend. Video of the incident shows exactly what set the NBA star off.

The fight was sparked thanks to a stunt gone wrong by a comedian named Denzel Kissmayo. He reposted the footage to his social media outlets after the fact.

Initially, it was somewhat unclear what started the argument. TMZ stated in a story that the incident began after a man began approached Derozan while he was eating.

“An eyewitness tells TMZ the altercation blew up after the man in shorts shoved a phone with a bright light in DeMar’s face,” the story reads. “The basketball player then knocked [the phone] out of his hand.”

Derozan was restrained before the disagreement erupted into something more physical. Still, the comedian attempting to pull the stunt was escorted out of the restaurant in an ambulance.

Denzel Kissmayo appeared to enjoy the attention his antics received. He posted video from his point of view in what looked to be an intentional attempt to cause a reaction. The caption to clip, which can be seen at the link below, reads, “I Just Got Attacked & Body Slapped By DeMar DeRozan.”

He not only posted the footage but then used it as a marketing ploy for a book.

DeMar Derozan seemed startled by having a bright phone light shoved in his face. His reaction wasn’t appropriate, but it was certainly understandable.

It will be interesting to see if any punishment follows. The Sacramento Kings have not commented on the incident according to the TMZ story.

Derozan just wrapped up his first season with the franchise. Sacramento went 40-42 with their new addition averaging 22.2 points per night.
