If you thought Sergio Garcia winning The Masters in 2017 would calm his fiery demeanor, it’s time to rethink that idea.

The 46-year-old Spaniard, who was once thought to be a player who could rival Tiger Woods for decades, has always been a bit of a black sheep in the golf world.

His talent is undeniable. But Garcia’s behavior, both off the course and on it, has always drawn more attention to him than his actual play. And that trend continued on Sunday after an outburst that is sure to draw the ire of both fans an Augusta National Golf Club.

Sergio Garcia Slams Driver Into Tee Box At The Masters

Garcia made the cut this year in Augusta, the first time since 2022 that he’s done so. But by Sunday morning, he was 5-over and 16 shots off the lead, well out of contention.

However, the fact that he wasn’t competing for victory didn’t cool his temper. After a brutal drive on the par-5, second hole, Garcia let loose in fury, taking a chunk out of the tee box with his driver.

He then proceeded to break the head of his driver after slamming it against the cooler on the side of the tee box. Because the damage was self-inflicted and didn’t occur during regular play, he will have to play the remainder of the round without a driver.

It’s hard to imagine that will help his play very much.

Again, this sort of behavior is commonplace for Garcia over the course of his career. But you’d think at some point he would’ve grown up, especially after winning the green jacket in 2017.
