Villanova dominated Richmond during the college football game in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Spiders could not keep their composure during the loss and sparked a bench-clearing brawl with a late hit and a punch.
Wildcats head coach Mark Ferrante ran all of the way across the field to break it up!
Although the scuffle did not have an impact on the outcome of the college football game, it was a disappointing side effect of a one-sided blowout. Players were punished accordingly.
Richmond lost to Villanova.
Richmond actually had the better record coming into the weekend at 6-3. Villanova entered at 5-4.
Their records did not matter on Saturday. It did not take long for the game to get out of hand. The home team went into the locker room with a 23-0 lead at halftime. The visitors never found an answer on either side of the ball.
Wildcats running back Isaiah Ragland ran for 125 yards on 17 carries. His backfieldmate, Ja’briel Mace, went for 77 yards on 17 carries. That allowed quarterback Pat McQuaide to take over in the red zone. He finished with 11 completions for 163 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.
Meanwhile, the Spiders mustered only 140 total yards of offense. Quarterback Jack Callaghan completed only eight passes for 60 yards and finished as the team’s leading rusher with 15 carries for 54 yards.
Richmond did not score a single point. Villanova won a game that was never close by a final score of 30-0.
Benches cleared during a college football brawl!
Wide receiver Brandon Binkowski caught one of Villanova’s three passing touchdowns. He was also on the wrong end of a late hit during the second half on what would’ve been his second touchdown of the game.
Binkowski, a sophomore, caught a 54-yard touchdown pass that was later overturned due to offsetting penalties. It was what happened after the play that mattered a lot more than what happened during the play.
The Spiders hit Binkowski late out of bounds. The late did not go over well with the Wildcats. They ran over to protect their teammate. Both sides started pushing and shoving, which spilled onto the track between the sideline and the stands.
A significant amount of Richmond players left the sideline get involved with the scuffle. One of them threw a punch at McQuaide. There might’ve been a few retaliatory swings amidst the brouhaha. Every official on the field threw a penalty flag.
Fortunately, the situation did not get too far out of control and nobody got hurt. Villanova head coach Mark Ferrante, in his 10th season with the program, sprinted all of the way to the other side of the stadium to remove his players from the situation.
A late hit on Brandon Binkowski on a 54-yard TD turns into a huge scuffle/fight that results in Mark Ferrante sprinting across the field to break it up.

Richmond also threw a punch at Pat McQuiade.
Like six flags.

In the end, both teams were called for unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalties offset. Two Wildcats were ejected. Junior tight end Nolan Clayton and sophomore offensive lineman Dhamir Wesley had their afternoons end early.
