Conspiracy theories suggest Vinicius Jr. has been replaced by a clone
Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. has begun the season in such a poor run of form that the internet is inventing theories to explain it. The prevailing conspiracy is that Vini Jr. actually perished in a plane crash over the summer and has since been replaced by a doppleganger.

Viral photo comparisons point to supposed differences in his thigh tattoo and facial features between older pictures and recent ones.

A key part of the conspiracy theory has to do with Vini Jr’s face, which was reportedly operated on over the summer. Brazilian outlet Portal Leo Dias reported on July 20 that Vinicius had a chin procedure after Brazil’s World Cup exit to redefine his jawline.
One strain of the conspiracy even blames the CIA and the Rothschild family, while another brings in reptilian aliens.

So far this season, Vinicius had one goal and three assists in eight appearances this season under new manager José Mourinho. With the first international break of the 2026/27 season concluding this week, Vinicius Jr. and Real Madrid will look to get their La Liga campaign on track on Saturday at home against Villareal.
