Marshall football is 3-0 this season after a strong home win over Virginia Tech on Saturday and Charles Huff proceeded to bury the Hokies six feet under. The 40-year-old, third-year college football head coach was absolutely savage during his postgame interview.
To his credit, he’s not wrong!
Virginia Tech has floundered into irrelevance over the course of the last six seasons. 2023 is no better.
The Hokies, who won at least 10 games every year from 2004 to 2011, dropped off toward the end of Frank Beamer’s tenure with four-straight seasons of seven or eight wins. Justin Fuente was supposed to be the savior, and they won 10 games in his first year.
And then everything came crumbling down.

- 2018: 6-7
- 2019: 8-5
- 2020: 5-6
- 2021: 6-7
- 2022: 3-8
Fuente was fired in 2021 and Brent Pry took over. His team is 1-3 with losses to Purdue, Rutgers and Marshall this season.
The road loss to the Thundering Herd is especially demoralizing for the Hokies. It is a helpless program with very little hope for success in the near future.
On the flip side, Marshall’s win is a very big deal for the program. Virginia Tech may not be the team that it once was, but a P5 win is a P5 win.
The atmosphere in Huntington, West Virginia was electric and an incredible drone shot captured the environment throughout Joan C. Edwards Stadium during pregame.
From there, the Thundering Herd went to work. A 17-point second quarter helped to propel them to a 24-17 win over the Hokies.
Following the game, Huff took aim right at his opponents and fired a vicious shot across the bow. It was both respectful and extremely disrespectful at the same time.

The sideline reporter could not even stifle her laugh. Huff really went there!
If Virginia Tech’s loss wasn’t bad enough, Huff buried the Hokies six feet under after the game. How will they ever recover?!
