It didn’t take long for the Washington Commanders to once again decide they didn’t want Carson Wentz to be their starting quarterback.

The Commanders just put Wentz back under center in the 2nd half of their Week 16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and played well enough to keep the job in Week 17.

Things didn’t go so well that following week when Wentz and the Commanders took on the Cleveland Browns. In front of the Commanders’ home crowd, Wentz threw for just 143 yards and no touchdowns while tossing 3 interceptions.

Commanders fans were booing Wentz before halftime.

With the loss to the Browns eliminating the Commanders from playoff contention, it appears they are ready to make another change at quarterback.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Commanders are going to give the starting job back to Taylor Heinicke for the team’s Week 18 game against the Dallas Cowboys and will also give rookie QB Sam Howell some snaps in the game.

With the Commanders out of the playoff race, they should be considering giving Howell as many snaps as possible to see what he’s capable of at the NFL level.

Right now, the Commanders don’t have an answer at quarterback as the Carson Wentz experiment appears to have been a failure and they have a very well-established ceiling with Heinicke under center. They will also be picking in the middle of the 1st round in April, so they could have a tough time finding their QB in the draft unless they trade up.

For right now, a long look at Sam Howell just might be the best option for the Washington Commanders.
