The Washington Huskies baseball program is teetering on the edge of the College World Series bubble as we near the postseason. The Huskies are 27-22 and sit in fifth place in the Big Ten standings.
On Monday night at Husky Ballpark, Washington may well have just saved its season. But not with a win. Instead, it appears someone with the Huskies program may have reverted to more nefarious means.
See, earlier this season, Washington took a 3-1 loss to Division III Pacific Lutheran. It was the type of loss that can crush your CWS hopes if you’re on the bubble. But it’d rebound thanks in part to a strong Big Ten season. On Monday, the Huskies took on NAIA program Warner Pacific, and things did not go according to plan. Through six innings, Washington trailed Warner Pacific 5-4…and then, divine intervention.
Tonight’s game has been suspended due to stadium light failure. Please check back at https://t.co/jEMpkBiUMY for further updates about a reschedule.

Lights Go Out At Washington Huskies Baseball Stadium At Just The Right Time
Suddenly, and perhaps conveniently depending on who you ask, the lights at Husky Ballpark went out. Presumably, Washington did everything it could to get the lights back on. But no dice. The game, which appeared as if it could end with a season-derailing loss, was suspended and as of yet has not been rescheduled. If it is not restarted, then it will come off the record books entirely, saving Washington from an embarrassing and crippling loss.
College baseball fans quickly caught on to the (alleged) shenanigans.
“Respect the move. I always turn off the Xbox right before my little brother beats me in Madden,” one fan posted on X. “Glad you decided to find the light switch after PLU came to town so you could be better prepared for this.”
“Didn’t post the score the entire game?? Just conveniently turned off the power???” asked another.
Washington still has not updated its schedule or team website with information about a reschedule. Something tells us it never will. And if the Huskies make the College World Series, you can be sure that college baseball fans everywhere will point to the game that wasn’t as a major reason why.
