Is it wrong to label Brendan Sorsby as a former Texas Tech quarterback? Probably. However, the 22-year-old will always be remembered for his brief stint in Lubbock more than his time at Indiana or Cincinnati. His focus is now on the NFL Draft.
Sorsby finally revealed what he has been up to over the last five months in a new video on social media.
Although he is effectively blackballed from the NFL and college football for the entire 2026-27 season, he continues to work on his craft with the intention to go pro in April. The past is in the past.
Brendan Sorsby had a severe gambling addiction.
Brendan Sorsby was supposed to be the starting quarterback at Texas Tech this fall. The Red Raiders paid him a historic amount of money to land his commitment out of the transfer portal. They had legitimate national championship hopes.
And then it all came crashing down in May.
The former two-year starter at Cincinnati entered rehab for a gambling addition. A new docuseries on Paramount+ revealed that he was just as enthralled with casino games as he was sports betting, but it was the latter that got him in trouble.
Sorsby was banned from college football for placing more than 9,000 bets that totaled at least $90,000. That included at least 40 bets on Indiana football while he was on the team. He eventually got caught more than two years later. A legal batter ensued.
Texas Tech brought his eligibility case to the courts. A temporary injunction briefly allowed its quarterback to practice with the team during fall camp but he was never fully reinstated. Sorsby eventually ruled himself ineligible and gave up the fight.
Not too long thereafter, the NFL told him that he would not be allowed to play in 2026-27 because it was not going to hold a supplemental draft. The CFL also turned him away, which left him with four remaining options.
Sorsby could either play at a junior college, sign with a nontraditional league like the Indoor Football League, wait until the spring to play in the United Football League, or declare for the 2027 NFL Draft in April. He went with the lattermost option.
What is he doing to prepare for the NFL Draft?
We last heard from Brendan Sorsby on June 30. His post on Instagram took full responsibility for his actions.
Sorsby did at some point go to rehab. He had not posted on social media in the last three months (and five days)… until Monday.
The 2027 NFL Draft prospect shared behind-the-scenes footage of his training — both on the field and off.

Brendan Sorsby is moving on from the sports betting scandal and the drama at Texas Tech. It looks like he is doing much better!
The 2027 NFL Draft is scheduled for the weekend of April 29. Will Sorsby hear his name called? Only time will tell. There are more than 200 days between now and then.
