On Friday afternoon, local news networks reported that Aaron Suttles, the content director for the ‘Yea, Alabama‘ NIL group, was arrested along with 15 others as part of a human trafficking sting.
According to local station 12 WSPA, Suttles was charged with soliciting prostitution and claimed he paid $100 to engage in sexual activity. He was booked into the Shelby County Jail and later released on $1,000.
But how much does Suttles actually have to do with the University of Alabama and its athletic programs?

While ‘Yea, Alabama’ is not an NIL collective, it is the official, University-approved NIL entity for Alabama Athletics.
So, what exactly was Suttles’ role with the group, and what is his background with Alabama athletics?
Suttles spent several years with The Tuscaloosa News, where he helped the paper win a Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting on a tornado in April 2011. He also covered the Crimson Tide football program for the outlet as well as nationally for The Athletic until 2023.
At that point, Suttles left The Athletic and joined ‘Yea, Alabama” where become the director of content and regularly contributed to the organization’s website. The website has since removed Suttles’ bio and any content produced by him.
‘Yea, Alabama’ later confirmed that Suttles had been suspended while an internal investigation is underway.

According to the site, ‘Yea, Alabama’ is “The Official Fan Experience of Alabama Athletics and facilitates authentic name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities for Alabama student-athletes. The incident continues what has been a difficult offseason for Alabama, although it appears that the Crimson Tide will easily wipe their hands clean of any attachment to Suttles should he be found guilty.
