The #9 ranked BYU Cougars and quarterback Bear Bachmeier are off to a hot start after blowing out Utah Tech 63-7 and beating Arizona 287-17 followed by another blowout 41-23. BYU Cougars Bear Bachmeier already has 642 passing yards and 6 TDs through three games but it is not his stats that have people talking today, it is a peculiar anecdote shared during the Arizona broadcast.
During the FOX College Football broadcast, Robert Griffin III shared how the Bachmeier family will occasionally have dinner together as a family in their birthday suits. Why? Nobody knows. But dinner in the buff is certainly not something anyone would classify as typical.
Why Does BYU Cougars QB Bear Bachmeier Eat Dinner With His Family Without Clothes?
A clip from the broadcast has just now been making the rounds. Evidently, not enough people were watching the Arizona-BYU broadcast at the time to catch the bizarre story. Bear Bachmeier threw for three touchdowns and 217 yards (16/26 passing) in that game but two weeks later this RGIII story is the one that seems to have endured.
In the clip below that ws shared to the social network Bluesky, RGIII can be heard saying “(Bear) told us that at the dinners, you know, sometimes they just take the clothes off, and they walk around naked. (Are) you naked at your dinners with the family?” to which RGIII’s broadcasting partner Connor Onion replied “do I have to answer that?” I would just like to point out that’s not a ‘no.’

Firstly, one must wonder what would possess Robert Griffin III to share that anecdote during a BYU broadcast. Secondly, it is worth asking why Bear Bachmeier would have ever shared that information with RGIII in the first place. Lastly, this all begs the question of why this peculiar admission would come up the second they show the QB’s mother on the broadcast and why anyone felt that was the appropriate time to air it all out there.
BYU QB Might Be That Dude
Coming out of Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, California, Bear Bachmeier had offers galore. He was a 3* prospect according to ESPN’s rankings with a composite grade of 79 but he secured offers from BYU, Colorado, Boise State, Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame, Stanford, Texas A&M, Oregon, Oregon State, and others. He was a HIGHLY prized recruit.
In his first season with the BYU Cougars, Bear threw for 3,033 yards and 15 touchdowns (7 interceptions). He also ran the ball for 527 yards and another 11 touchdowns on teh ground for 26 total TD contributions. Not too shabby!
Bear stands 6’2 and is listed at 230 pounds. He has all the heft of a big league quarterback and he’s just a sophomore who is already blowing out teams for BYU.
Is it worth asking him why the family eats dinner without clothes? Are those really answers anyone wants, or needs? And if the answer to the latter question is ‘yes’ then why didn’t Robert Griffin III share that information when he spilled the beans on the broadcast that Bear Bachmeier and his family occasionally eats dinner naked.
Personally, I’d be most worried about burns if I was not wearing clothes at the dinner table. That behavior might fly if you are eating a salad or a something chilled. But if we are talking about piping hot enchiladas here, or steak, wouldn’t the risk of getting burned from something slipping off a fork/spoon be worth tossing on shorts and/or a shirt? The people have questions!
