The Texas Poker Open is a $2M guaranteed event with a $3,300 buy-in and Day 1a began on Wednesday with absolute fireworks. This tournament is being live streamed on PokerGo where they captured what might be the wildest four-way all-in hand we’ve ever seen.
First off, everyone in this hand thought they were ahead. It’s why they all called, obviously. Nobody goes all-in for their tournament life on Day 1a of a poker tournament without believing they’ve got the pot locked up. But with each subsequent caller, everyone began to realize that they were probably screwed.
The pocket rockets began the hand as a 62% pre-flop favorite to win the hand. Those odds plummeted to just 7% after the flop when two players hit a set. But things didn’t stop there and continued to get interesting… Here’s the action from PokerGo:
The 1700 raise from AA seems appropriate in their position but with each subsequent call, things must’ve felt tense. Whoever was calling with 5d4h was out of their minds but then when that flop hit they must’ve believed they struck gold when in fact they were the only person involved in the action who couldn’t win the hand.
Their odds went to 0% on the flop even though they hit two pair. And that’s because every 5 and 4 was already in play and the board itself couldn’t have the best hand so they were dead.
The fact that there were four spades on the board and four players all-in but NONE of them had a spade might be more insane to me than the Ace of Spades coming out on the river to prove that sometimes the best starting hand actually wins. That said, the fact that AA called all-in is equally wild because they should have known they were beaten at that point and were chasing, but seeing the king out there they must’ve put their opponents on AK or KQ.
