Willson Contreras was ejected for charging Cade Cavalli.

Red Sox catcher Willson Contreras was ejected for a second straight on game on Tuesday night against the Nationals. That canning came after he nearly started a brawl on the infield.

Despite being sent to the clubhouse, emotions were still at a high in the moments that followed scuffle. Soon after being tossed, he threatened to fight a fan on social media.

The ejection continues a roller coaster of a week for the Boston backstop. On Monday, he smashed a three-run homer in his first at-bat of a 6-3 win over Washington.

The Venezuelan was then seen crying in the dugout, overcome with emotion about the recent earthquake that’s left the area devastated.

He struck out in his next at-bat of the contest. He wasn’t fond of the home plate umpire’s call. Contreras mocked the blue by tapping the top of his helmet on the way back to the dugout. It landed an early exit.

Willson Contreras has 2 ejections in as many days.

The first came as a result of a disagreement with an umpire. The second involved an argument with a player.

Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli struck Contreras out in the fourth frame. He very audibly yelled, “Sit down, boy,” after recording the K. His counterpart took immediate offense.

Contreras approached the mound. Cavalli didn’t back down. Benches soon cleared.

Things started to get physical after Contreras threw his helmet at the pitcher, though there wasn’t much outside of pushing and shoving. At the end of the scrum, three players were tossed.

Most believe Cavalli’s reaction was linked to Contreras’s Monday night home run. He pimped it before rounding the bases.

The pitcher didn’t mention that bat flip in his postgame response. There was a first inning incident in which Contreras brushed by him, which may have played a role. At the end of the day, Cavalli simply said that emotions are “part of the game.”

Tensions carried into the clubhouse.

Soon after being removed from the lineup, Willson Contreras hopped on his phone. He happened to see a comment below a video posted by the Instagram account “bostonstrong_34,” which referenced the altercation.

“Willson Contreras is a p—,” the comment read. “And I’m a diehard Sox fan.” The catcher immediately responded with a threat.

“Come meet me at Fenway.”

Clearly, tempers hadn’t subsided at that point in time. He seemed to be much calmer after the game ended, though.

Boston lost the Tuesday night matchup, 8-1. We’ll see if there are any repercussions in the form of a suspension for Contreras.
