The Winter storm that just moved up the East Coast after bringing Tropical Storm-like conditions to Florida left a path of extreme weather from the Sunshine State to the Northeast, including some of the best and biggest surfing New Jersey has seen in years.

New Jersey-based surfer Ben Gravy, who I recently interviewed after he became the first person in history to surf the 7 Seas in 7 Days, was stoked to have some of the world’s best surfing right in his backyard after record-setting winds hit the Northeast.

Surfline was able to pull some footage of what some epics waves. These are such tasty rides that Zander Morton of Surfer questions if they might be the biggest waves ever surfed in New Jersey.

The short answer to whether or not these were the biggest waves ever sured in New Jersey is… probably not, but maybe. Jersey has gotten some truly massive swells over the years due to Winter storms. The Garden State has been known to have frozen ‘Slurpee Waves‘ in the Winter with big, surf-able waves that are partially frozen and look absolutely miserable to ride but the surfers paddle out anyway.

Before the wave closed out on top of him, Rob Kelly caught one of the slickest rides of the day. He described Jersey as being in “rare form” which looks about right:

It isn’t unreasonable to have the conversation about whether or not these were some of the biggest waves ever surfed in New Jersey. This was a massive Winter storm and the swell reflected that. I just don’t think we have the proper data to definitely say this surfing sesh was bigger than every sesh in the past.
