Most golfers head into a round with high expectations, and it’s hard not to be mad at yourself when your game fails to live up to them. There are plenty of ways you can deal with that frustration, and one man in Wisconsin opted for a less-than-optimal route after he was pulled over for going more than double the speed limit following a rough outing.
Anyone who’s subjected themselves to the sport of golf is likely all too familiar with the central paradox that defines it. Most people who play would tell you they use a round to relax and unwind, but those outings revolve around a game with an uncanny ability to make your blood pressure spike and lead you to repeatedly wonder why you ever started playing in the first place.
Former MLB manager Jim Leyland once shared an amazing anecdote about a round he played with Arnold Palmer, the legend who dished out what I consider an invaluable reminder every average golfer should keep in mind whenever they play: “You’re not good enough to get mad.”
Of course, that is easier said than done, and it can be very hard to resist the urge to throw a club into the nearest pond or whack it against the closest tree after an errant shot. Having “a good walk spoiled” can also induce some anger that can linger well after you wrap up your round, which was certainly the case with one guy who paid the price after taking his rage out on his gas pedal.
A golfer in Wisconsin blamed a bad round for speeding after he was pulled over for going 114 MPH
Wisconsin is home to more than 400 golf courses, and according to WFRV, one man recently decided to play a round at a track located in Barron County.
The county’s sheriff’s department shared a post concerning a traffic stop that was conducted on 19th Street in the vicinity of Rice Lake Airport, which involved a golfer who’d likely departed from either Rolling Oaks or Turtleback based on their proximity to the location of the pullover.
The unidentified driver was reportedly going 114 MP in a 55 MPH zone, and when given the opportunity to explain himself, police say “he referenced having just left the golf course after playing a horrible round and quitting early cause he lost all his golf balls.”
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t understand, but you have to have a bit more self-restraint than that.
