Anyone who played sports growing up or has a kid who’s on a team knows there are some parents who have a tendency to take those low-stakes contests far too seriously. That was certainly the case at a youth football game in Wisconsin, as a man was hit with criminal charges for tripping a child who was on their way to scoring a touchdown.
The majority of kids in the United States take part in organized sports when they’re growing up. Those activities are an integral part of countless childhoods, and they not only serve as an outlet for the boundless amounts of energy most kids have but can also instill valuable life skills linked to the concepts of winning and losing and being part of a team.
It’s easy to understand why parents want their children to succeed, but if you’ve ever spent time hanging around Little League fields or Pop Warner games, you’ve almost certainly encountered some grown adults who are far too invested in games that are incredibly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
However, that doesn’t stop way too many people from screaming at underpaid umpires and referees or threatening to fight parents with kids on the opposing team when tensions flare, and one man in Wisconsin earned a ban and a citation over an inexcusable incident involving a young player.
A 41-year-old man in Wisconsin was charged with disorderly conduct for tripping a nine-year-old running for a touchdown during a football game
Earlier this month, we were treated to a viral incident in Tennessee after a girl ran onto the field during a middle school football game and tackled a player (which she said she did to come to her brother’s defense).
Now, we’ve been treated to what I would argue is an even more egregious interruption that unfolded when the Racine Eagles hosted the Milwaukee Colts in a U-10 Brew City League football game at Case High School in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 22nd.
According to CBS58, parents and coaches affiliated with Racine were understandably outraged after a 41-year-old man with a kid on the Colts stepped onto the field and forcibly tripped a nine-year-old member of the Eagles as he was making his way toward the end zone, an act that was captured on camera.
The police were called, and while the unidentified parent left the scene before they arrived, he was pulled over near the high school and reportedly “admitted to the act and acknowledged he was wrong” while saying he was “upset with a play” while attempting to justify the move.
Mount Pleasant police cited him for disorderly conduct (a misdemeanor), and a representative for the Colts confirmed he’s been banned from attending games for “the remainder of the season” (including an upcoming rematch between the two squads in September).
