WNBA Star Brittney Sykes Shares Secret To Slowing Down Iowa Hawkeyes Superstar Caitlin Clark

Slowing down Caitlin Clark is far from an easy take.

In fact, for LSU star Hailey Van Lith, it proved nearly impossible during Monday night’s NCAA Women’s Tournament Elite Eight matchup.

But WNBA star Brittney Sykes, perhaps the league’s best on-ball defender, says there’s one major key that college teams seemingly haven’t picked up on.

“If anyone is reading this …. STOP Letting Caitlin Clark GO LEFT TO SHOOT HER THREES 😭 my gosh … ESPN even showed a MADE FG visual,” Sykes tweeted during Monday night’s game.

Now, if anyone would know how to slow down an elite scorer, it would be Sykes. The 30-year-old is a two-time WNBA leader in steals, two-time second-team All-Defense selection and two-time first-team All-Defense choice.

If that wasn’t enough to sway you, Sykes also led all guards in defensive win shares last season with 2.4 according to Basketball Reference. Her defensive rating of 99.5 was also second-best among guards and ninth among all players in the WNBA.

So it’s safe to say that Sykes knows a thing or two about playing defense.

And just in case Clark comes into the league next season and gives Sykes buckets, she was sure to cover all her bases.

Now, having a plan and executing a plan are two different things. Clark’s ball-handing and movement without the ball make her a tough cover, to say the least.

But we’ll see if UConn and legendary coach Geno Auriemma are able to put Sykes’ advice to good use.

UConn superstar Paige Bueckers is not only one of the best offensive players in the country, but she’s one of the nation’s best defenders.

Bueckers ranks second in the country in defensive win shares and fifth in defensive box plus/minus. If any can slow down Clark on the college level, it would be Bueckers.

Will she?

Well, we’ll just have to tune in and find out.
