Wol Mangar Chol is the most viral prospect in high school basketball. He is considered a Class of 2027 recruit but nobody seems to know his real age.

He is something of an enigma.

Mangar Chol moved to the United States from South Sudan as recently as the last 12 months. It is not entirely clear as to where he will play high school basketball or how he became eligible for AAU.

Who is Wol Mangar Chol?

To be completely honest, I cannot provide a complete answer to the above question. The information is limited.

Wol Mangar Chol burst onto the scene during an AAU tournament in Maryland. He plays for the club Boys2men, which is based out of Long Island, New York.

MADE Hoops director of written content Marcus Helton shared the following photo of the massive seven-footer over the weekend:

His highlight tape from the tournament is utterly dominant. It’s not even fair.

D1 Information (@BestXandOs on X) offered this evaluation:

“Chol is an elite finisher in the post but is not super fast, but he still has a year in high school to develop some speed and footwork. His footwork is not super advanced, but you can tell there is plenty of potential there. He is really strong and has a bigger physique than many his age, which should play to his advantage at this stage of the recruiting process. Defending on the perimeter is something he has to improve, but his interior defense right around the rim is solid as of now. Curious to see what he can do in the coming weeks.”

Mangar Chol is listed at 7-foot-0 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan. His weight is not listed anywhere on the internet. Nor is his age.

If we are to go off of the American standard, Mangar Chol would be 16 or 17 years old as a junior in high school. I don’t know if that also applies to his “academic standing” in Africa. He looks much older.

This 70-second video provides the only (non-basketball related) public information about him:

It is unclear as to when he moved to the United States or where he currently attends high school. Wol Mangar Chol is an enigma.

Dankind Academy develops African high school basketball players.

Mangar Chol grew up in South Sudan. He later moved to Uganda to play for the Dankind Academy in Kampala.

The nonprofit humanitarian initiative was inspired by former NBA players Manute Bol and Luol Deng. It uses eduction, basketball and community to support progress in East Africa by providing talented student-athletes with full scholarships, mentorship and athletic training through a purpose-built basketball facility.

Here is a video of Wol Mangar Chol during friendly games in 2023:

These are highlights from 2023 and 2024:

Now, at whatever age he might be, Mangar Chol is playing on the AAU circuit in the United States.

There is still a lot of room for development. Wol Mangar Chol is nowhere near a finished product. He apparently has another full year of AAU and high school basketball to work on his craft. A college program will surely give him an opportunity to learn and grow at the next level. We’ll see.
