The New York Jets are an unmitigated disaster and owner Woody Johnson’s fingerprints are all over the mess. Things are so bad in New York that reports indicate that Woody’s son Brick Johnson, a college student, is a “de facto” general manager.
Following the firing of general manager Joe Douglas, a bevy of reports detailing the disfunction within the New York Jets organization have hit the newswire, including this latest indication that Woody Johnson’s son has massive influence within the organization.
While it’s unclear exactly how old Brick Johnson is, he’s currently a student at Harvard University and is on the men’s tennis team. Earlier this week, it was reported by The Athletic that the failed free agent signings of veterans Tyron Smith and Mike Williams were “social media driven.”
“Owner Woody Johnson badly wants to win, he’s sunk resources into making that happen, but he’s also created an environment that people there don’t feel like is all that conducive to actually accomplishing that,” NFL insider Albert Breer reported prior to the Thursday Night Football game between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.
“That’s because he listens to too many non-football people on football matters, he pays too much attention to what’s going on on the internet, and that’s what people there feel like is an unpredictable boss.”

Fellow NFL reporter Tony Pauline added to Breer’s reporting, saying that it’s been a joke in league circles for some time now that Brick is the “de facto” GM of the team.
I can add this from the @AlbertBreer report- It’s been jokingly mentioned for several years in league circles that’s Woody’s son Brick Johnson is the de facto GM of the @nyjets , specifically when it comes to “Internet influences decision making,” which is exactly what took… https://t.co/j7Zbqd9QVk

“Brick Johnson if you’re reading this Will McClay is the Skibidi Toilet of GM candidates he has Fortnite Ohio Rizz,” one NFL fan joked.
“Brick Johnson, if you’re reading this, your dad is a s—– owner and should sell the team,” another frustrated Jets fan tweeted.
The 3-8 Jets have a bye this week before resuming their miserable 2024 season on December 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.
