World Champion Cyclist Rohan Dennis Charged With Killing Wife Melissa In Car Crash

Shocking and tragic news struck the cycling world on Sunday.

Two-time world time trial champion Rohan Dennis, 33, was arrested by Australian police and charged for causing death by dangerous driving in relation to the death his wife, Melissa.

Hoskins, herself a professional cyclist, was a part of Australia’s 2012 Olympic track cycling team.

According to The Australian, “Melissa Dennis (nee Hoskins), 32, suffered serious injuries in the crash and paramedics took her to Royal Adelaide Hospital for further treatment. ”

She later passed away at the hospital.

“Following an investigation, a 33-year-old Medindie man has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and endangering life,” police told the paper.

Rohan Dennis was later released o bail and will appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 13.

Following an impressive career on the track, Dennis transitioned to road cycling where he also became one of the world’s best. He has won stages in each of the three grand tours (Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana) and won world titles in the time trial in both 2018 and 2019.

He most recently joined Dutch powerhouse team Jumbo-Visma prior to the 2023 season. Shortly after, he announced his intent to retire from cycling following the completion of the of the calendar year.

Dennis and Hoskins married in 2018. They have a pair of children together.
