Tony Romo Catches Stray As Wyndham Clark Torches Idea That An NFL Player Could Play On The PGA Tour

World #7 golfer Wyndham Clark was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show where he laid waste to the idea that anyone in the NFL could ever hang on the PGA Tour, former footballers like Tony Romo included. Wyndham joked that if Tony Romo is so great at golf someone should ask him how much money he’s paid Scottie Scheffler over the years even with Scottie giving him strokes.

The question was prompted by Rich Eisen who says that some athletes in the NFL believe they have what it takes to play on the PGA Tour. Tony Romo would be the highest-profile ‘NFL golfer’ despite being retired for a few years, because Romo has attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open in recent years. But other NFL stars who are great golfers include Ryan Succop (+2.6 index), Patrick Mahomes (7.7 index), Adam Thielen (0.4 index), Aaron Rodgers (4 index) and former players like Larry Fitzgerald and Matt Ryan.

Wyndham Clark says an NFL player thinking they could compete on the PGA Tour “is like me saying I could be starting left tackle for the Denver Broncos.” He went on to say “no chance… I’ve played with a lot of good golfers that are either NFL guys or NBA guys and they are good. Maybe they are scratch or +1 or +1, but at the end of the day it’s just a totally different level.”

Not content to leave it at that, Wyndham Clark continued, saying “we call it ‘Country Club Good,’ you know. They’re good at their country club and they might beat us in a money game with their strokes that they get. But when they get inside the arena, inside the ropes on the PGA Tour, (at) really tough golf courses, we’d probably beat them by 8 to 12 shots a day.”

Eisen pressed Clark about Tony Romo specifically and Wyndham said “just ask Romo how much money he’s given to Scottie Scheffler in money games they play in Dallas. And if it’s not in six figures then I’ll be shocked.”

You heard it right there, folks. Wyndham Clark completely dismantles the idea that there is a single athlete in the NFL that could hang with a PGA Tour golfer in a tournament.
