If you think New York Yankees fans were upset when Major League Baseball began allowing Nike to put its logo on their uniforms (and they were), you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Back in March of 2022, Major League Baseball announced that as part of the new collective bargaining agreement it would begin to allow advertising on uniforms with patches and decals on players’ helmets.

Fans were again, not happy.

A few short months later, a adult website reportedly offered the Yankees $20 million to become the club’s first ever jersey patch sponsor.

Needless to say, the Bronx Bombers did not accept the offer.

However!

On Wednesday, the New York Yankees did reveal that they had accepted another offer for jersey patch sponsorship from… Starr Insurance!

The Yankees seem pretty proud of their new deal with the insurance company. They even made a hype video out of it.

Take a wild guess how that bit of news was accepted by diehard Yankees fans.

If you said, “poorly,” give yourself a star (with just one R).

“Disgraceful lineup. Management has become clueless. Advertisements on the jersey,” read one angry comment. “At this point just let them grow facial hair. This organization has become clueless, like the commissioner. Y’all have lost your minds.”

“Yes, you need even more money,” wrote another exasperated fan. “The best revenue generating team in the league needs to put a small patch on their jersey to make just a little more money.”

“The most valuable franchise in all of sports, estimated at $6 billion, which has fiercely protected its image for decades, stooping to making their jerseys look like a Sunday kids giveaway for a quick buck is pretty bleak,” another fan wrote.

Other words used to describe the new patches on the Yankees’ jerseys included pathetic, hideous, blasphemy, garbage, disgusting and awful.

On the plus side, it’s better than the Atlanta Braves’ uniform patch.
