Zach Wilson, Chomping On Gum Like A Middle Schooler, Says He ‘Doesn’t Care About Stats’ Following 3 INT Game

Yeah, so… Zach Wilson sucks. It was apparent last year and it remains the case this year, as the subpar play from the quarterback position is holding back a New York Jets team that should be contending for the postseason for the first time in a decade.

As I said when the Jets took him with the #2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, he’s an undersized QB who played at BYU during a historically strange COVID-ravaged college football season. Whatever he might have done during that year at BYU doesn’t necessarily feel like an accurate representation of the player given all of the mitigating circumstances that were surrounding him.

This version of Zach Wilson, however, certainly seems like the real deal, and the painfully obvious truth to everyone currently watching (other than the NYJ organization, apparently) Wilson is that he’s simply not *him*. Other than the likes of Jalen Hurts, whose second-year explosion is an increasing rarity in the NFL, you’re able to tell whether or not a QB will be a “franchise” QB within their first season. And while I’d certainly love to be wrong, I’m rather convinced that Wilson is, once again, not the savior the franchise needs.

His recent attitude likely won’t do him any favors either, as the 23-year-old signal-caller — whilst chomping on gum like a middle-schooler — told a Jets reporter that he “doesn’t care about stats” mere minutes after he posted a crippling statline that featured three interceptions in a game that the Jets lost by 5 points.

Life for Wilson certainly won’t get any easier next week for Wilson and the Jets as the Buffalo Bills, perhaps the best team in the NFL, are coming to town.
