Zion Elee shut down transfer rumors after Mike Locksley's firing.

Freshman defensive end Zion Elee has responded to the recent Maryland football firings on social media. The Terrapins parted ways with defensive coordinator Ted Monachino shortly after a loss to Rutgers. Three days later, the school fired Mike Locksley.

Elee appears blindsided. He did not expect to be without his two top leaders before finishing his rookie year. His online reaction has sparked tampering concerns. Will Elee leave Maryland?

Last offseason, the defender was one of the most coveted prospects from the high school ranks. He was considered a consensus five-star talent and a Top 10 player nationally.

His recruitment came down to two schools. The Baltimore native chose Maryland over South Carolina. He admitted nearly flipping to the Gamecocks on Signing Day.

“It was very close. What I was weighing was definitely the relationship I had with the (USC) coaches. The D-line coach at South Carolina, we’re really close. He gets to me. That was one thing that had me on the verge of flipping.”

Ultimately, he followed through with his commitment to the Terps. Will he stay through a coaching change?

The defensive end posted a series of photos to TikTok after the news of Monachino’s exit was announced. Audio played over the pictures that begins with the following message.

“They fired my coach… and I felt like that was on me.”

That is not the case. Elee is one of the few stars on a defense that ranks 128th nationally in points allowed. He leads the unit in sacks and tackles for loss. He’s also forced three fumbles.

His play had no impact on the defensive coordinator’s firing.

The caption on Elee’s TikTok post suggested surprise. He appeared blindsided by the news.

“I was a little like, damn…”

A few days later, his head coach was let go. Maryland will pay Mike Locksley $10 million to stop leading the football team amid a 12-game conference losing skid.

Elee shared a photo of the two on his Instagram story after the fact.

With his DC and head coach out, social media is speculating a potential transfer. Will he flip to South Carolina, the runner-up in his previous recruitment? Will he move onto another school that he visited like Auburn?

Elee appeared to shut the portal rumors down with a response on Instagram. He seems to be locked in with Maryland at this moment in time.

The Terps will keep their 5-star pass rusher.

Tampering season in college football never dies. The portal isn’t always open, but communication lines are.

Given the competitiveness of his high school recruitment, questions have surfaced about a possible transfer. Zion Elee eased concerns.

Elee posted a photo of him holding a Maryland flag alongside a note that read, “It’s gud.” He does not appear to be weighing his options. His goal is to finish out the season strong.

Another positive in the Terps’ push to keep Elee in the fold is the promotion of assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim. He was the defender’s top recruiter. He will replace Locksley in the interim.

Elee’s response to the firings is similar to that of his quarterback, Malik Washington, who insisted the focus will remain on the team regardless of staff changes.

Zion Elee and his teammates are not looking towards the portal. They are looking ahead to the next matchup vs. Illinois on Halloween. The online whispers can stop… for now.
