This Danner Boots x Old Spice Collab Is Raising Money To Preserve Hiking Trails In The Pacific Northwest

Back in mid-May, my brother and I randomly decided to embark on a last minute road trip from Los Angeles to Oregon. It had all the hallmarks of a great spring road trip: Weird weather, rugged coastlines, lots of fresh seafood, beautiful scenery, and strange mountain town motels that feel straight out of Twin Peaks.

The highlight, without a doubt, was a climb up Cascade Head, just north of Lincoln City at the mouth of the Salmon River meeting the Pacific Ocean. The 4.2-mile hike is a moderate ascent into clouds that feel like they’re floating above your head. You hike straight into Pacific headwinds, with the ocean roaring 1310 feet below. The trailhead starts in a true old growth Pacific Northwest rain forest, classified as a 270-acre UNESCO biosphere reserve, before opening into a grassy headland meadow with spectacular views of the coast to the south.

Cascade Head is a truly breathtaking wild space that inspires a certain sense of wonder, accessible only by hoofing it. The journey to the top is more than a ramble; It feels like a mythological quest. It’s an adventure for the sense, from the vistas to the olfactory cocktail of salty ocean air, moss, and grasslands. It’s a place that feels sacred; A place that changes you. A place that needs to be experienced and preserved for generations enjoy the true serenity of sitting in that meadow high above the baritone rumble of the Pacific shoreline.

As John Muir said, “between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.”

I’m glad we live in country that works hard to preserve wild places like Cascade Head so simpletons like myself can experience them to unplug and recalibrate.

That’s why I’m also such a wild fanboy for this collaboration between Oregon’s own Danner boots and Old Spice. Together, they created a pair of limited edition leather boots that are 100% made in the United States. It’s a project that helps outfit you for the outdoors with an awesome pair of handcrafted hiking boots AND helps preserve hiking trails similar to the one up Cascade Head that I can’t stop gushing about.

It’s a pretty sweet deal: Buy the Danner x Old Spice Mountain Light boots and 100% of proceeds from the project will be donated to Trailkeepers of Oregon to help fund trail maintenance and advocacy work.

These special edition Danner x Old Spice boots include the following, including Danner’s hallmark craftsmanship. Truly some of the best hiking boots out there:

  • Waterproof GORE-TEX lining
  • Iconic red lacing
  • Stitchdown construction and premium Danner leather
  • Upgraded with special Vibram outsoles that feature two very unique Old Spice footprints with a fun leave-no-trace message to others out there on the trail:

And they look great with your hiking socks of choice (…pictured with my hairy Sasquatch legs above and below)!

Sweet deal for any avid outdoors person and a nice corporate gestures for others to enjoy Oregon’s incredible hiking trails for generations to come.
