Samsung’s Unpacked Event Reveals New And Improved Galaxy Flip 3 And Fold 3 Phones

Samsung went all-in on flippable and foldable handsets during its 2021 Galaxy Unpacked event; setting the tone for the upcoming cell phone release schedule. Samsung presented new wireless devices that fold and flip. During Samsung’s Unpacked event, the wireless mobile company officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, the latest versions of the compactable cell phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

The completely redesigned Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 boasts a huge 7.6-inch Infinity Flex display with Gorilla Glass Victus that runs at an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, plus a 6.2-inch AMOLED cover screen. The new foldable phone features three 12-megapixel rear cameras: a wide, ultrawide, and telephoto lens. There is also a 10-megapixel under-display selfie camera.

New for 2021, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 gets S Pen support. The Fold 3 comes in the 256GB and 512GB configurations, and is equipped with Android 11, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12GB of RAM. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a 4,400mAh battery, which can be fast-charged up to 25 watts or wirelessly at up to 10 watts. The Z Fold 3 also supports reverse wireless charging.

The new Fold phone is stronger than previous models – protected by a new protective film on the main screen said to be 80% more durable than the previous model. The frame and hinge are constructed of a new material called Armor Aluminum, which Samsung says is 10% more durable than the previous version. The new Fold has IPX8 water resistance, meaning it can survive underwater up to five feet for up to 30 minutes.

The new Fold 3 is available in three colors: silver, green, or black. The folding phone is $200 less than last year’s model – starting at $1,799. Samsung is offering up to $800 in trade-in offers on a new Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

The Galaxy Z Flip 3, a clamshell-designed phone made with aluminum and glass, has IPX8 water resistance, the first for a folding wireless handset. Inside is the Snapdragon 888 processor, and has a 120Hz refresh rate. The next generation Flip will be available in 5G. The Z Flip 3 will offer a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover screen, and once you open it up the phone has a vibrant 6.7-inch Infinity Flex display.

Camera-wise, the phone has a 12-megapixel wide and 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is available in gray, white, pink, cream, green, lavender, and Phantom Black. The device has a price tag of $999 when available for preorder on August 27.
