Anytime I watch a post-apocalyptic movie, my first thought is always “I wonder how similar this is to North Korea?” And then I ruined the movie for myself because, for the rest of the film, I just keep picturing all the characters as North Koreans and the movie pretty much becomes nonsensical. And then I tell whoever I watched the movie with that I didn’t like it because I ruined it for myself by picturing everyone as cogs in the North Korean poverty machine. Then Kim Jong-un comes out and kills one of his top officials because he sat ‘disrespectfully’ during a meeting and it pretty much reaffirms said North Korean cinematic theory.

“The North Korean Leader, Kim Jong-un, has executed his deputy premier for education and purged two other senior officials, sending them to re-education camps, the South Korean government said on Wednesday. Jeong Joon-hee, a spokesman for the South’s Unification Ministry, said at a news briefing that the South Korean government had used various means to confirm the execution of Kim Yong-jin, the deputy premier, and the purge of Kim Yong-chol, the head of the United Front Department of the ruling Worker’s Party, which handles relations with, as well as spying operations against, South Korea. Choe Hui, a deputy chief of the party’s Propaganda and Agitation Department, was also banished for re-education.”
Quick reminder, ‘re-education camps’ are pretty much work camps where prisoners are forced to undergo intense mental and physical punishments as a way to break them down enough to force them to embrace Jong-un’s regime or die.
“Mr. Jeong provided no further details, including when the reported punishments were believed to have taken place or how South Korea had learned of them. But in a later briefing, a Senior Unification Ministry official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, said that Kim Jong-un had found fault with the 63 year-old deputy premier’s “disrespectful posture” during a meeting that Mr. Kim oversaw in late June…he was executed by firing squad in July.”
Yep, you read that one right. The guy sat wrong during a meeting and Kim J-U had him shot to death. Look, if the guy walked into the meeting and plopped his dick onto the table, I can maybe see why they made him a new lead jacket. Remember, this is a post-apocalyptic landscape. You only take your dick out if you’re about have some ‘End of the World’ sex or you’re trying to openly insult somebody. Especially in Casa de Jong-un. I’m dying to know how this guy was sitting. Was he not facing Jong-un directly? Did he fold one leg over the other? Did he wear the same shirt as Jong-un did? It could really be any number of these things.
Oh, and for reference, this is what happened a different time someone got executed by firing squad:
“On Tuesday, the mass-circulation daily JoongAng Ilbo, citing an anonymous source, reported that Hwang Min, a senior Education Ministry official, had been executed with antiaircraft guns in early August.”
