While all 30 major league teams will wear special baseball caps to honor Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school after last week’s tragic mass shooting the Miami Marlins are going the extra mile
to show support for the school which is located less than 30 miles from Marlins park.
The Marlins have not only invited Stoneman Douglas baseball and softball players to attend this afternoon’s spring training game but they are also wearing “MSD Strong” T-shirts and caps during their warmups.

We have guys who live in the area, guys who grew up right in that area. It’s obviously something that’s close to our heart since it’s our community,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Thursday. “I think [the hats are] something good. You don’t really know what to do in these tough situations. You don’t know what to say, you don’t know how to act or react. … It feels good to be able to do something.”
Before their exhibition season opener against the Cardinals on Friday, the Marlins will wear a black MSD hat with white lettering and a “17” on the back, the same as designed in recent days for the Eagles’ baseball team, and “MSD Strong” T-shirts
This is a really nice gesture by the Marlins and it shows how local teams can help their local communities through tough times.
