These Are The Most Popular Cities To Live In After College

There are really only three living options after graduating school — going back home, living in the same town as your college or moving someplace random. A fourth option is traveling the world but who the hell can afford that right out of school?

Student loan marketplace Credible spoke to 4,500 young Americans who have been out of school for an average of 4.5 years and released a study on the most popular cities for college grads.

The study found the nine most popular — Charlotte, Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, New York, Portland, Oakland and Washington, D.C. — had the most out-of-state graduates relative to in-state graduates among 20 large U.S. cities. Oddly, many of the cities on the list were among the nation’s most expensive. Because student loans be damned!

“The trend of graduates moving to expensive cities is unsurprising, said Matthew Gardner, chief economist at Seattle-based Windermere Real Estate.”People are going to be attracted to a thriving job market, regardless of cost,” he said. “The most important thing on many of their minds is to get a job.”

If it doesn’t work out, they could always move back in with their parents. They’re the ones paying their student loans anyway.
