A Western Michigan Basketball Player Was Just Charged With Murdering A Fellow Classmate

A Western Michigan basketball player has been charged with murder and armed robbery in the killing of a fellow student last week, reports the AP.

Joeviair Kennedy allegedly shot and killed 19-year-old Jacob Jones at an off-campus apartment last Thursday during a robbery of Jones’ phone and money.

Kennedy, 20, is in his second year with the 3-6 Western Michigan Broncos and was averaging 3.1 points in 7.4 minutes per game

WMU head coach Steve Hawkins spoke on the incident after the team’s win vs James Madison.

“It’s a devastating loss for our university. It’s a devastating tragedy for everybody involved. Lives were changed forever. We’re very, very respectful of that, and we’re very shook by the whole thing.”

Western Michigan has deleted the redshirt freshman from its athletic website.

The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
