First up this week is the second Booker’s Bourbon batch of the year, The Lumberyard Batch, which was just released this month. The Lumberyard Batch is named in honor of the lumberyard that Booker Noe worked at during his pre-distillery years. It clocks in at a spicy 124.8-proof with a printed age statement of 7 years, 1 month, and 7 days.
The Lumberyard Batch is a rich amber color and it has calming an aroma of vanilla that’s expected in an age statement such as this. As is the case with all Booker’s Bourbon batch releases, it’s released in limited quantities so you’ll want to keep an eye out for it before it’s gone. FEW Spirits recently launched their collaborative Motor Oil Whiskey that’s currently available for pre-order and ships in early August (link to purchase is below). This unique collaboration brings together FEW Spirits Founder + Master
Distiller Paul Hletko and rock icons Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, paying tribute to B.R.M.C.’s seminal album.
The FEW Spirits Motor Oil Whiskey ($60/750 ml) is a blend of three unique whiskeys. The first is finished in rum barrels, the second is finished in vermouth barrels, and the third is a mesquite-smoked wheat whiskey where the wheat is actually smoked with mesquite wood prior to distilling.
This is a very cool release for whiskey lovers and the finished blend packs a cornucopia of flavors from mesquite smoke to sweetness from the rum barrels. The existence of this collaboration is actually pretty remarkable because it spanned the bulk of the early pandemic. It was blind tastings across Zoom, shipping countless samples all over the country for tasting and tweaking recipes.
