Aaron Paul Says The Ending Of ‘El Camino’ Left Him Speechless

Netflix

At the time of this writing, we are exactly nine days away from the release of El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, and truth be told, I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for the release of a film since The Dark Knight over a decade ago.

Speaking of Batman, something about the allure of a television show as iconic as Breaking Bad returning for a sequel film reminds me of the famed Caped Crusader tale of The Dark Knight Returns.

In that story, Bruce Wayne — long past his glory days at 55-years-old — is forced out of retirement and back into action to save his beloved Gotham City. And when you think about it, it’s kind of what Breaking Bad is doing with El Camino: it’s returning — past its glory years — to our lives to save us from the terrors of the Game of Thrones ending and to remind us of what beautiful story-telling should be.

And according to the film’s star Aaron Paul, El Camino more than delivers on its mission to awe, as he says the ending of the movie left him in stunned “silence”:

In early 2018, the actor visited Gilligan’s office, kicked off his shoes, and stretched out on a couch for almost three hours, slowly reading the El Camino script. “When I flipped the last page, I just laid there in silence.”

From the moment Gilligan had told him about the film, he’d been eager to learn Jesse’s fate. “But I was also thinking, My God, what is this gonna look like, revisiting this guy?” [Vulture]

While there are some corners of the internet who have been wondering whether or not El Camino will be able to live up to its almost unprecedented hype, given everything we’ve seen and heard thus far, there’s no reason to believe that series creator Vince Gilligan hasn’t crafted another masterpiece.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie will hit Netflix in the United States on Friday, October 11.
