Aerial Footage Of Hurricane Irma Destruction On The Island Of Barbuda Is Absolutely Stunning

Hurricane Irma has mercilessly made its way through the Caribbean, destroying just about everything in its path along the way. For several days, Hurrican Irma had sustained winds over 185 MPH and actually set the record for the strongest sustained storm on record anywhere on the planet, but it has since been downgraded to a Category-4 hurricane.

The storm is still the size of Texas and poses an extreme threat to the state of Florida as the current path has Hurricane Irma cruising up through the middle of the state which would effectively pound the entire peninsula of Florida with hurricane force winds. To give everyone a sense of just how devastating this hurricane is, the Climate State YouTube channel put together this compilation of aerial footage from the island of Barbuda where Hurricane Irma passed through on Wednesday:

The islands of St. Martin and Barbuda were hit the hardest (so far) of any islands in the path of Hurricane Irma. It’s estimated that 90% of all structures on those two islands were completely destroyed. Homes, resorts, restaurants, boats, cars…everything, destroyed. It’s estimated that *at least* 60% of the population of Barbuda is currently homeless because of damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
