About a year ago, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on the set of the Alec Baldwin-starring Western Rust.

On October 21, 2021, while working as the cinematographer on Rust, On October 21, 2021, the 42-year-old Ukrainian was fatally shot by Baldwin, who was using a prop gun that was not properly checked during production.

Over the weekend, in an effort to perhaps pay tribute to Hutchins, Baldwin shared a photo of her on his Instagram with the caption “One year ago today…” At this time, the photo remains live on Baldwin’s Instagram page.

While Baldwin likely didn’t harbor any ill will when posting the photo, most people on social media crushed the 64-year-old for his tone deafness nonetheless.

“Inappropriate. This could be very misunderstood,” one person commented on Baldwin’s post.

“Time to fire your publicist,” said another.

“This feels really inappropriate since you’re the one who shot and killed her,” another commenter said.

“Seems exploitive given you’re getting all the attention from your fans instead of everyone focusing on her and her poor family,” added another.

Despite the fact that Baldwin was the one holding the prop gun at the time of Hutchins’ death, he has not been charged with any crimes in relation to the tragedy and reached an undisclosed settlement with the family of Hutchins in their wrongful death lawsuit back in early October.

“As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed,” Hutchins’ widower said in a statement. “I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident.”

While Baldwin has not been officially charged, the Santa Fe district attorney indicated back in September that the actor could still face charges. Still, despite all of this, production on Rust is reportedly scheduled to resume in 2023.
