Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper’s husband, Matt Kaplan, has “frequently” yelled at and threatened staff members at their Unwell media company, allegedly making one employee cry, according to a new report.
Bloomberg reports that Kaplan, the co-CEO of Trending Media and overseer of the company’s day-to-day operations, has developed a troubling reputation for berating the company’s employees.
One example cited in the report was an alleged incident that occurred during filming of the company’s YouTube series “Unwell Winter Games.”
People familiar with the incident claim that Matt Kaplan chastised the crew on set and threatened to bar them from ever working in Hollywood again if they made a mistake. As a result, a veteran crew member began to cry. According to sources, crew members complained through the official on-set procedure and eventually threatened to resign if Kaplan didn’t stop his negative behavior.
Another example cited in the report was a scene from the 2025 Hulu documentary about Alex Cooper’s first live tour, in which the production manager threatens to quit. In a later scene, Kaplan attributes the threat to the tour’s demanding work schedule. However, a person familiar with the dispute claims that the manager’s reaction was primarily related to Kaplan’s disrespectful behavior, which included yelling and cursing at employees.
Requests for comment were submitted to Cooper and Kaplan, but their reps did not immediately respond.
Alex Cooper is no stranger to controversy
Influencer Alix Earle, a TikTok star who joined Unwell in 2023 before the network abruptly discontinued her Hot Mess podcast last year, has recently engaged in a public dispute with the Call Her Daddy host. Cooper has accused Earle of inciting “fake drama” and told her to “stop hiding behind other people” and being “passive-aggressive” on social media.
Last year, SiriusXM execs reportedly had to keep legendary radio host Howard Stern “away” from Alex Cooper when she was in the New York City offices. Cooper and her $125 million contract reportedly “bug” Stern.
Two months prior to that, Alex Cooper accused her former soccer coach at Boston University, Nancy Feldman, of years of harassment in her Hulu documentary. Shortly thereafter, 99 former Boston University women’s soccer players came out in defense of Feldman in a letter shared with the media outlet by a representative of BU Women’s Soccer alumni.
