Vanessa Kirby and Sydney Sweeney have joined the cast of Ron Howard’s upcoming film Eden.

In addition to Kirby and Sweeney — who replaced Alicia Vikander and Daisy Edgar Jones — the film also stars Ana de Armas, Jude Law, and Daniel Bruhl.

The project has also added legendary composer Hans Zimmer to its ranks to work on the film’s score. This will actually mark the tenth time that Zimmer and Howard have worked together on a movie.

Based on an unsolved mystery that unfolded on a remote island in the Galapagos, the movie charts the lengths humans will go in pursuit of happiness. According to the producers, the film “explores the human condition in ways that are unexpected, absurd, humorous, sexy, but above all thrilling and deeply suspenseful”.

Howard has wanted to tell the story for 15 years, ever since he first visited the Galapagos Island where the real-life events took place. [via Deadline]

At this time, given the ongoing actors’ strike which began back in mid-July, it’s unclear when the cast will be able to report for filming.

According to Deadline, however, director Ron Howard — who most recently directed the 2022 survival drama Thirteen Lives, which detailed the rescue of a Thailand soccer team trapped in a cave — will begin production on the film in late November.

The 35-year-old de Armas was last seen starring in the widely reviled AppleTV+ film Ghosted alongside Chris Evans and will be starring in the John Wick spinoff Ballerina next summer.

As for Sweeney, she’ll be starring in the rom-com Anyone But You alongside Glen Powell later this year and the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web in early 2024.

Kirby, on the other hand, appeared in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One earlier in the summer and will next be seen starring as Josephine Bonaparte in Ridley Scott’s epic Napoleon, which will be released on November 22.
