In case you live under a rock and somehow missed it, footballing legend Lionel Messi not only made his MLS debut for Inter Miami over the weekend but he scored a game-winning free kick in extra time.

Considering Messi’s legacy and what his arrival in the United States means for the sport here, it could be argued Messi’s first MLS goal is the most important in the history of the league.

While Messi’s game-winner obviously made tons of headlines, so did his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, who — similar to her husband — was also making her debut in front of American soccer fans.

Messi and Roccuzzo are both from Rosario, Argentina, and have known each other since Messi was five years on. Their relationship began in 2008 and they got married in 2017.  The pair currently have three children together.

In addition to her job as a mother of three boys, the 35-year-old (at the time of this writing) Roccuzzo is also a brand ambassador for the athleisure wear brand Alo.

Messi’s move to Inter Miami and Major League Soccer comes after he spent the previous two seasons in Ligue One with Paris Saint-Germain. The bulk of Messi’s storied career, of course, came with the legendary Spanish club Barcelona, where he scored an astounding 474 goals in 520 games.

During his time at Barcelona, Messi won six Ballon d’Or awards (essentially the MVP award of world football — he also won a 7th in 2021 while with PSG),  10 La Liga titles, and four Champions League titles.

On the international stage, Messi famously won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Argentina — his first and the nation’s first since 1986 — after previously losing the 2014 title to Germany and being knocked out by eventual winners France in 2018.
