Twins went to Applebee's, hoping to get margaritas. However, they were denied, with the server telling them they had the same ID.

Thirsty Thursday (or whatever day) isn’t as much fun when you can’t drink. It’s even worse when the person being denied a drink is your twin brother—especially if the drink is denied because of an overzealous Applebee’s manager.

Mamonzita (@mamonzita) recently posted a short TikTok of twins having the most un-good time in the neighborhood. In the video, someone says, “I’m telling you, these are both the same ID.”

Meanwhile, text in the video explains the problem: “Applebees manager thought we had the same ID.”

‘Call The Cops’

It’s a problem many sets of twins deal with: being confused for their identical sibling. But paperwork should typically clear up any confusion. In this case, though, the numbers on the IDs should’ve been enough to establish the twins’ age.

“I’m telling you these are both the same ID as far as the number goes,” says the manager.

“That’s really cool,” says one of the brothers.

The manager disagrees, saying, “It’s not really cool because I can’t serve two of you with the same ID.”

One brother offers to let the manager call in the authorities. “Brother, can we call the cops? I’ll leave your restaurant if that’s what you want,” he says.

Applebee’s Customers Intervene

The twins are understandably confused and lowkey frustrated.

“Are you guys seeing this?” one asks everyone around him. “Am I crazy?”

Other guests looked at the twins’ identification cards and verified that the two IDs are different. “They’re not the same driver’s license number,” says a customer.

But after several other Applebee’s guests get involved, the manager returns. This time, he says, “I’m sorry for the confusion.”

And the twins got their drinks.

According to the internet, double trouble is more than a 1980s sitcom. It’s the problem of being an identical twin.

“This happened to me and my fraternal twin. I had the bartender call our mother to confirm we were in fact twins, not two people with fake ids using the same address and DOB,” one wrote.

Another quipped, “You’re both twins, HOW DARE YALL LOOK THE SAME.”

Fraternal Vs. Identical Twins

There are two types of twins: fraternal and identical. Fraternal twins are in the same womb at the same time but come from two different eggs, each fertilized by a different sperm. Identical twins, meanwhile, are one egg and one sperm that splits in the womb. Of the two biological scenarios, identical twins are “more likely to occur by chance,” explains the site Healthline.

Further, just because identical twins seem like they should share the same DNA, a recent study proved “an estimated 15 percent of identical twin pairs may have one member that exhibits significant genetic variation from their twin.” The number of genetic variations between identical twins can be directly impacted by when the fertilized egg separates.

For example, an egg that fully separates into two embryos on day three of conception is more likely to result in cellular diversity. Compare that to a nine-day separation, and those embryos are likely to share the most genetic material. The result: two people who are truly made of the same stuff.
